UDIS NEWSLETTER ISSUE #16

K2: Using materials For the current unit - K2 is exploring how materials look and feel and the uses and purposes we have for them. To introduce the topic, the class created their own pieces of art using a range of different materials. The learners produced some fantastic work!
Y2: Leading positive change - Year 2 embarked on a journey of discovery, exploring how to enact positive change individually. From conserving water and electricity to contemplating the impact of our consumption on vital resources like trees, the classroom has become a hub of eco-conscious exploration. Learners explored the issue of deforestation, its impact on palm oil farming and its effect on native species. Through their investigations, the class is gaining knowledge and developing a sense of responsibility.
Y4: Visiting Bangkok Hospital - Year 4 had the wonderful opportunity to visit Bangkok Hospital on Friday. We had the pleasure of Dr. Isariya who showed us around the Emergency Room, explaining how ultrasound works and teaching us about sutures, using real pig skin! The learners were also allowed to take a ride in the ambulance, and most importantly, were taught how to do CPR and how to help a friend who is choking!
Y6: Preparing for the PYPX - As the Year 6 learners prepare for the PYP Exhibition, this week they have been focusing on how to effectively integrate Visual Arts into their projects. Through water colour paintings, the learners have been recreating and reimagining powerful images that engage the viewer, evoke an emotional response and reflect what they have learnt through their independent inquiries.
MY: Learning about future careers - The MY learners attended our Careers Event on Thursday, April 25th and learned about the job requirements of professions such as business, engineering, and medicine. In addition, the learners and professionals discussed the subjects that would need to be studied to pursue such careers. Exploration of career paths will help guide the subject selection process before learners enter the Diploma Programme in Year 12.

Ms. Charlie - our Year 1 teacher

I am Ms. Charlie, a Year 1 Teacher during the week and an artist on weekends. I love nature and the fresh air it offers while travelling. I find joy in listening to music while engaging in creative activities. Teaching brings me great happiness as I make a positive impact on the lives of the children I educate. Lastly, I share my life with my two adorable cats, Zen and Zelda, lovingly called my Ziggies.

Languages at UDIS - English We have been carrying on with learning lots of new vocabulary this week. We have had different activities to help us in improving our speaking and writing skills.
